Target Information

Glucocorticoid Receptor (NR3C1) is a receptor for glucocorticoids that functions as both a transcription factor and a regulator of other transcription factors.
It forms heteromeric cytoplasmic complexes with heat shock factors and immunophilins. The receptor resides in the cytoplasm until ligand binding induces nuclear transport.
Expression is found in various heart regions including atria, ventricles, aorta, apex, septum, and atrioventricular node.
Alternate splicing and promoter usage result in multiple transcript variants. Mutations in the gene can cause glucocorticoid resistance.
GR requires association with chaperone protein complexes for ligand activation and binds steroids such as dexamethasone with nanomolar affinity.
