Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene is a glycoprotein belonging to the pentraxin family, characterized by a pentameric organization. Members of this family share considerable sequence homology, likely due to gene duplication. Binding of this protein to proteins in the amyloid cross-beta fold suggests a possible chaperone role. It may also regulate chromatin degradation and has been shown to bind apoptotic cells at an early stage, indicating involvement in apoptotic cell clearance in vivo.
