CYP21A2는 cytochrome P450 초가족에 속하는 효소로, 약물 대사 및 콜레스테롤, 스테로이드, 지질 합성에 관여하는 monooxygenase 반응을 촉매합니다. 이 단백질은 소포체(ER)에 위치하며 스테로이드의 21번 위치를 하이드록실화합니다. 해당 효소의 활성이 코르티솔 및 알도스테론 합성에 필수적이며, CYP21A2 유전자 변이는 선천성 부신 과형성증(congenital adrenal hyperplasia)의 원인이 됩니다.
