Target Information
Alpha 2-Macroglobulin (A2M) is an approximately 720 kDa homotetrameric glycoprotein composed of four identical ~180 kDa subunits.
A2M shares structural similarities with other alpha-macroglobulins such as complement components C3, C4, and pregnancy zone protein (PZP), providing a broad ligand-binding capacity.
It functions as a humoral defense barrier by capturing various proteinases, acting as a panprotease inhibitor.
In Alzheimer’s disease (AD) patients, A2M is localized in diffuse amyloid plaques, suggesting its involvement in AD pathogenesis.
