Target Information
ATF6 is a transcription factor that acts during endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress by activating unfolded protein response (UPR) target genes. It binds DNA at specific ER stress response elements (ERSE and ERSE II) and requires NF-Y binding for proper function.
ATF6 can form homodimers or heterodimers with ATF6 beta and interacts with NF-Y, GTF2I, YY1, and SRF transcription factors. Under ER stress, the cleaved N-terminal domain translocates into the nucleus to activate transcription. The protein is N-glycosylated, phosphorylated by MAPK14/P38MAPK, and belongs to the bZIP family.
