Target Information

The KV gene family encodes over 30 genes forming the subunits of K⁺ channels, exhibiting diversity in gating, permeation properties, and expression patterns. Functional KV channels assemble as tetramers of pore-forming alpha-subunits (KVα), including KV1, KV2, KV3, and KV4 proteins, and accessory KVβ subunits that modify gating properties. Variations in trafficking, processing, and surface expression of major KV1 subunits (KV1.1, KV1.2, KV1.4) in rat and human brain indicate that subunit regulation is crucial for proper neuronal channel formation.
