Target Information
The IBSP (Integrin-Binding Sialoprotein) gene encodes a major structural protein of the bone matrix, comprising approximately 12% of the noncollagenous proteins in human bone. It is synthesized by skeletal-associated cell types such as hypertrophic chondrocytes, osteoblasts, osteocytes, and osteoclasts, with trophoblast being the only extraskeletal site of synthesis. The protein binds calcium and hydroxyapatite via acidic amino acid clusters and mediates cell attachment through an RGD sequence that recognizes the vitronectin receptor.
