Target Information

SARS-CoV-2 (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2), also known as 2019-nCoV, is a virus that causes illnesses ranging from mild cold-like symptoms to severe respiratory distress and death.
The SARS-CoV-2 Spike Protein consists of S1 and S2 domains and serves as the main surface antigen of the coronavirus. The glycosylated Spike protein and nucleocapsid protein can be detected in infected cell culture supernatants using antisera from SARS patients.
The S1 domain contains a receptor-binding domain (RBD) that specifically binds to angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2), the receptor on target cells.
Coronavirus diversity is reflected in the variability of Spike proteins (S proteins), which have evolved to differ in receptor interactions and responses to environmental triggers of virus-cell membrane fusion.
