Target Information
E-Cadherin (epithelial cadherin) is a classical cadherin belonging to the calcium-dependent adhesion protein superfamily. It is a glycoprotein involved in cell-cell adhesion, composed of five extracellular cadherin repeats, a transmembrane region, and a conserved cytoplasmic tail. Mutations in the CDH1 gene are associated with gastric, breast, colorectal, thyroid, and ovarian cancers. Loss of E-cadherin function promotes cancer progression by enhancing proliferation, invasion, and metastasis. The ectodomain mediates bacterial adhesion to mammalian cells, while the cytoplasmic domain is essential for internalization. E-cadherin plays a key role in maintaining tissue architecture and integrity. In humans, it is encoded by the CDH1 gene on chromosome 16. Reduction or loss of E-cadherin expression correlates with increased tumor invasiveness and metastatic potential.
