E-Cadherin (epithelial cadherin)은 칼슘 의존적 세포 간 접착 단백질로, cadherin 슈퍼패밀리에 속합니다. 이 단백질은 다섯 개의 세포외 cadherin 반복 영역, 막관통 영역, 그리고 보존된 세포질 꼬리 영역으로 구성되어 있습니다.
CDH1 유전자의 돌연변이는 위암, 유방암, 대장암, 갑상선암, 난소암 등과 관련이 있으며, E-cadherin의 발현 감소 또는 소실은 암의 침윤 및 전이 가능성과 양의 상관관계를 보입니다.
E-cadherin은 조직 구조 유지 및 세포 성장 조절에 중요한 역할을 하며, 인간에서는 염색체 16에 위치한 CDH1 유전자에 의해 암호화됩니다. 또한, 세균 부착 및 내재화 과정에도 관여합니다.
