Target Information
The FUK protein belongs to the GHMP kinase family and catalyzes the phosphorylation of L-fucose to form β-L-fucose 1-phosphate. This enzyme mediates the first step in the utilization of free L-fucose, which is involved in glycoprotein and glycolipid synthesis. L-fucose plays roles in cell-cell interactions such as blood group antigen recognition, inflammation, and metastasis. Several transcript variants may exist, but only one full-length form has been described.
