Target Information

Transthyretin (TTR), also known as prealbumin, is a plasma protein that functions as a transporter of thyroxine and retinal-binding protein. It is primarily produced in the liver and secreted into plasma. TTR constitutes about 25% of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) protein, suggesting selective transport across the blood-CSF barrier or synthesis within the central nervous system. Transthyretin is found in neuritic plaques, neurofibrillary tangles, and microangiopathic lesions associated with senile cerebral amyloid. Over 40 mutations in the TTR gene have been linked to amyloid deposition disorders.
