GARS는 glycyl-tRNA synthetase로, 아미노산을 해당 tRNA에 결합시키는 aminoacyl-tRNA synthetase 중 하나입니다. 이 단백질은 (alpha)2 이합체 형태로 존재하며, class II tRNA synthetase 계열에 속합니다. 또한, 인간 자가면역질환인 다발성근염(polymyositis) 또는 피부근염(dermatomyositis)에서 자가항체의 표적 단백질로 알려져 있습니다.
