Target Information

CD63 (also known as LAMP-3, lysosome-associated membrane protein-3) is a glycoprotein belonging to the tetraspanin family. It is located in late endosomes, lysosomes, and secretory vesicles of various cell types. CD63 can also be found on the plasma membrane following cell activation and is widely used as a basophil activation marker.

In mast cells, CD63 expression does not require activation. It interacts with integrins, influencing phagocytosis and cell migration, and is involved in H/K-ATPase trafficking and ROMK1 channel regulation. CD63 also functions as a T-cell costimulatory molecule and its expression can serve as a prognostic marker in early-stage carcinomas.

CD63 is expressed on activated platelets, monocytes, macrophages, and weakly on granulocytes, B, and T cells. It is identical to the melanoma-associated antigen ME491 and the platelet antigen PTLGP40. CD63 dysfunction is linked to diseases such as melanoma and Hermansky-Pudlak Syndrome.
