The MBD3L1 gene encodes a protein related to methyl-CpG-binding proteins but lacking the methyl-CpG binding domain. The protein localizes to discrete nuclear regions and is expressed mainly in round spermatids, suggesting a role in postmeiotic stages of male germ cell development.
