Target Information
PRKG1 is a cGMP-dependent serine/threonine kinase that plays an important role in the relaxation of vascular smooth muscle and the inhibition of platelet aggregation.
The PRKG1 proteins are central regulators of cardiovascular and neuronal functions, smooth muscle tone, and cell growth modulation.
This gene is strongly expressed in smooth muscle, platelets, cerebellar Purkinje cells, hippocampal neurons, and the lateral amygdala.
Isoforms Iα and Iβ share identical cGMP-binding and catalytic domains but differ in leucine/isoleucine zipper and autoinhibitory sequences, resulting in distinct dimerization substrates and kinase activities.
