Target Information
Structural Maintenance of Chromosomes (SMC) family proteins are essential for various nuclear processes requiring chromosomal structural changes, including mitotic chromosome organization, DNA recombination and repair, and transcriptional repression.
SMC1 and SMC3 form a heterodimeric complex required for metaphase progression and sister chromatid cohesion. Mutations in SMC1 can lead to Cornelia de Lange syndrome 2.
