Target Information
The CD4 antigen is involved in the recognition of MHC class II molecules and acts as a co-receptor for HIV. CD4 is primarily expressed in T helper cells but can also be found in monocytes, macrophages, and dendritic cells. It is expressed in thymus, lymph nodes, tonsils, spleen, and other tissues such as brain and gut. CD4 contributes to T-cell activation through association with the T-cell receptor complex and protein tyrosine kinase Lck, and may mediate neuronal damage in immune-related diseases. Multiple alternatively spliced transcripts have been identified (RefSeq, July 2017).
