Target Information
The CD4 antigen is involved in the recognition of MHC class II molecules and acts as a co-receptor for HIV. CD4 is primarily expressed in T helper cells, but also in monocytes, macrophages, and dendritic cells. It is found in thymus, lymph nodes, tonsils, spleen, and other tissues. CD4 plays a key role in T-cell activation through association with the T-cell receptor complex and Lck kinase, and may mediate neuronal damage in immune-related CNS diseases. Multiple alternatively spliced transcripts have been identified (RefSeq, July 2017).
