Product Specific Information
This antibody detects endogenous levels of CD44 only when phosphorylated at Serine 706.
Target Information
CD44 is a 100 kDa type I transmembrane glycoprotein widely expressed on human leukocytes, brain white matter, and epithelial cells of the intestine and breast. Multiple isoforms exist, with CD44H being predominant in normal tissues. CD44 functions as a receptor for hyaluronic acid (HA) and is involved in cell-cell interactions, adhesion, and migration. It plays roles in lymphocyte activation, recirculation, and homing. CD44 expression may increase in certain carcinomas, potentially linked to metastatic potential. It is expressed by hematopoietic and non-hematopoietic cells, epithelial tissues, and filopodia in cultured keratinocytes. Bone marrow myeloid cells and memory T cells express CD44 at high levels, while peripheral B and T cells upregulate CD44 expression upon stimulation. The CD44 gene undergoes complex alternative splicing, generating functionally distinct isoforms. Dysfunctions of CD44 are associated with diseases such as superficial keratitis and lichen sclerosus, and it may be related to tumor metastasis formation.
