Target Information
TRPV4 (Transient Receptor Potential Cation Channel Subfamily V Member 4) is a cation-selective channel activated by systemic osmotic pressure. It is a non-selective calcium-permeant cation channel involved in osmotic sensitivity and mechanosensitivity.
TRPV4 belongs to the OSM9-like transient receptor potential channel (OTRPC) subfamily of the TRP superfamily.
Mutations in TRPV4 are associated with spondylometaphyseal dysplasia, metatropic dysplasia, and hereditary motor and sensory neuropathy type IIC.
Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
