Target Information
CD31 (platelet endothelial cell adhesion molecule-1, PECAM-1) is an inhibitory coreceptor involved in regulation of T cell and B cell signaling through immunoreceptor tyrosine-based inhibitory motifs (ITIMs). Upon phosphorylation, these motifs provide docking sites for protein-tyrosine phosphatases.
CD31 is widely expressed within the vascular system, primarily at junctions between adjacent cells. Its N-terminal Ig-like domain mediates homophilic binding, important for cell-cell interactions.
This multifunctional molecule plays key roles in integrin-mediated adhesion, transendothelial migration, angiogenesis, apoptosis, immune regulation, autoimmunity, macrophage phagocytosis, IgE-mediated anaphylaxis, and thrombosis. It is a critical regulatory component of the vascular system.
