Antibody detects endogenous levels of total Piezo1.
Target Information
Piezo1 is a pore-forming subunit of a mechanosensitive non-specific cation channel, generating currents characterized by a linear current-voltage relationship that are sensitive to ruthenium red and gadolinium. Structurally, Piezo1 contains 36 transmembrane domains and functions as a homotetramer.
Piezo1 plays a key role in:
- Epithelial cell adhesion via integrin activation and calpain signaling
- Pressure and flow sensing in kidney tubules
- Shear-stress sensing in endothelial cells, promoting vascular organization and alignment
Defects in the PIEZO1 gene are associated with:
- Dehydrated hereditary stomatocytosis (with/without pseudohyperkalemia and/or perinatal edema)
- Lymphedema
