Target Information
Cyclin E belongs to the highly conserved cyclin family, characterized by periodic changes in protein abundance during the cell cycle. Cyclins regulate CDK kinases, with distinct expression and degradation patterns ensuring proper mitotic timing. Cyclin E forms a complex with CDK2, essential for the G1/S transition, and is degraded during S phase. Overexpression of Cyclin E is linked to chromosome instability and tumorigenesis. It also associates with NPAT protein, involved in histone gene expression and cell-cycle progression without pRB. Multiple splice variants of Cyclin E have been identified.
