TRPV4는 삼투압 자극에 반응하는 양이온 선택적 채널로, Ca²⁺ 투과성 비선택적 양이온 채널입니다. 삼투 감수성과 기계 감수성에 관여하며, OSM9-like TRP 채널(OTRPC) 하위군에 속합니다.
이 단백질은 전신 삼투압 조절에 관여하는 것으로 알려져 있습니다.
TRPV4 유전자의 돌연변이는 spondylometaphyseal dysplasia, metatropic dysplasia, hereditary motor and sensory neuropathy type IIC 등의 질환과 관련이 있습니다.
여러 전사 변이체가 존재하며, 서로 다른 isoform을 암호화합니다.
