Target Information
Gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) is a major inhibitory neurotransmitter found throughout the central nervous system. GABA is formed by the decarboxylation of glutamate and acts through two receptor types: GABA-A and GABA-B.
Binding of GABA to GABA-A receptors increases chloride ion influx into neurons, resulting in signal transmission repression. Lack of GABA-mediated signaling can lead to system overloads, blackouts, rapid body contractions, seizures, and epilepsy.
