Target Information
In response to environmental stress, many cells increase the expression of heat shock or stress proteins. HSPB1 (Heat Shock Protein Beta-1, also known as HSP27) is a small heat shock protein functioning as a molecular chaperone to maintain denatured proteins in a folding-competent state. It contributes to stress resistance and actin organization and regulates biological processes such as phosphorylation and axonal transport of neurofilament proteins. Mutations in the HSPB1 gene are associated with Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease type 2F and distal hereditary motor neuronopathy type 2B.
