Target Information
Casein kinase I (CKI) and casein kinase II (CKII) are families of serine/threonine protein kinases found in all eukaryotes. CKI members (alpha, gamma, epsilon, delta) regulate cytoplasmic and nuclear processes such as DNA replication and repair. CKII typically forms tetrameric complexes (α2β2 or αα′β2), where the α subunit’s catalytic activity is modulated by the β regulatory subunit. CKII phosphorylates over 100 substrates, including nuclear oncoproteins, transcription factors, and enzymes involved in DNA metabolism. High CKII activity is observed in the cytosol and nucleus of proliferating and differentiating cells.
