Product Specific Information

The 2B8 monoclonal antibody reacts with mouse CD117 (c-Kit receptor), also known as Steel factor receptor or stem cell factor receptor. This 145-kDa tyrosine kinase receptor is expressed by hematopoietic progenitor cells, mast cells, and plays a role in their proliferation and activation.

Target Information

KIT (c-KIT) is a proto-oncogene encoding a type 3 transmembrane receptor for mast cell growth factor (stem cell factor, SCF). KIT regulates growth and activation of hematopoietic and non-hematopoietic cells. Mutations in KIT are associated with gastrointestinal stromal tumors, mast cell disease, acute myelogenous leukemia, and piebaldism.

Upon SCF binding, c-Kit dimerizes, leading to receptor activation and autophosphorylation of tyrosine residues such as Tyr703, enabling downstream signaling via Ras/ERK, PI3K, PLC-γ, and JAK/STAT pathways. KIT receptor activation is essential for hematopoiesis, stem cell maintenance, and gametogenesis.
