The immunogen is mouse monoclonal antibodies raised against human CD21.
Target Information
CD21 (complement receptor 2, CR2, C3D receptor, EBV receptor) binds C3 complement fragments, especially its breakdown fragments, which remain covalently attached to complement activating surfaces or antigens.
CD21 plays a key role in:
- Uptake and retention of immune complexes
- Survival of memory B cells
- Development and maintenance of humoral immune responses
Additionally:
- CD21 serves as a receptor for Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) and is involved in prion targeting to follicular dendritic cells.
- Soluble CD21 (sCD21) retains ligand-binding ability after being shed from the lymphocyte surface.
- It associates with CD19, CD81, and Leu13 to form a signaling complex for B cell activation.
- Genetic variations in CD21 are linked to systemic lupus erythematosus type 9 (SLEB9).
- Alternative splicing results in different isoforms of CD21.
