Target Information
Lano is a member of the LAP (leucine-rich repeats and PDZ) family of proteins that includes Densin-180, Erbin, and hScribble. LAP proteins generally contain multiple leucine-rich repeat (LRR) domains which target them to the basolateral membrane of epithelial cells.
Lano is unique in that it lacks PDZ domains, unlike other LAP family members. However, it can bind to PDZ domains of Erbin and membrane-associated guanylate kinase (MAGUK) proteins, which regulate adhesion and plasticity at cell junctions. These interactions suggest LAP proteins play roles in embryonic development and epithelial tissue integrity.
