Target Information

IKK beta (Inhibitor of nuclear factor kappa-B kinase subunit beta) is a serine kinase essential to the NF-κB signaling pathway. Phosphorylation of IκB proteins by IKK kinases, including IKBKB, leads to their ubiquitination and degradation, allowing NF-κB activation. This pathway is triggered by inflammatory cytokines, bacterial or viral products, DNA damage, and other cellular stresses. IKK beta functions as part of the canonical IKK complex, phosphorylating inhibitors of NF-κB on key serine residues, enabling NF-κB translocation to the nucleus and activation of genes involved in immune response, cell growth, and anti-apoptotic processes. Mutations in the IKK beta gene can lead to Immunodeficiency 15 (IMD15).
