Product Specific Information

This antibody detects endogenous levels of p27 Kip1 only when phosphorylated at Ser178.

Target Information

p27 Kip1 functions as a negative regulator of G1 phase progression and is proposed to mediate TGF-β-induced G1 arrest. It is a key regulator of cell cycle progression and a potent inhibitor of cyclin E- and cyclin A-CDK2 complexes. p27 Kip1 also forms complexes with cyclin D-CDK4, contributing to assembly, stability, and modulation of CCND1-CDK4 activation. Depending on its phosphorylation state and stoichiometry, p27 Kip1 can act as either an inhibitor or activator of cyclin D-CDK4 complexes. The protein has a molecular weight of approximately 27 kDa, and its degradation—triggered by CDK-dependent phosphorylation and subsequent ubiquitination by SCF complexes—is essential for the transition from quiescence to the proliferative state.
