Target Information

The ACADM gene encodes a medium-chain specific (C4–C12) acyl-Coenzyme A dehydrogenase.
This homotetramer enzyme catalyzes the initial step of mitochondrial fatty acid β-oxidation.
Defects in this gene cause medium-chain acyl-CoA dehydrogenase deficiency, leading to hepatic dysfunction, fasting hypoglycemia, and encephalopathy, potentially resulting in infantile death.
Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
