Target Information
HMGN3 binds to nucleosomes, regulating chromatin structure and chromatin-dependent processes such as transcription, DNA replication, and DNA repair. It influences insulin and glucagon levels and modulates pancreatic gene expression involved in insulin secretion.
HMGN3 also regulates the expression of glucose transporter SLC2A2 by binding to its promoter region and recruiting PDX1 and other transcription factors. Additionally, it controls SLC6A9 expression, affecting glycine concentration in synaptic junctions of the CNS.
May play roles in ocular development and astrocyte function.
