Target Information
Mammalian mitochondrial ribosomal proteins are encoded by nuclear genes and are involved in mitochondrial protein synthesis. Mitochondrial ribosomes (mitoribosomes) consist of a small 28S subunit and a large 39S subunit, with approximately 75% protein to rRNA composition, unlike prokaryotic ribosomes. Mammalian mitoribosomes lack a 5S rRNA, and their protein components vary significantly among species, making sequence homology recognition difficult. The MRPL3 gene encodes a 39S subunit protein from the L3P ribosomal protein family. A pseudogene corresponding to this gene is located on chromosome 13q.
