This antibody detects endogenous levels of total MRPL39.
Target Information
Mammalian mitochondrial ribosomal proteins are encoded by nuclear genes and are involved in protein synthesis within the mitochondrion. Mitochondrial ribosomes (mitoribosomes) consist of a small 28S subunit and a large 39S subunit, with an estimated 75% protein-to-rRNA ratio, in contrast to prokaryotic ribosomes. Unlike prokaryotic ribosomes, mammalian mitoribosomes lack a 5S rRNA. The proteins comprising the mitoribosome vary greatly among species, making sequence homology recognition difficult. The MRPL39 gene encodes a 39S subunit protein, with two transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms. A pseudogene is located on chromosome 5q.
