Target Information

The 90 kDa heat shock protein (Hsp90) family of molecular chaperones is a highly conserved group of proteins that play important roles in cellular physiology. Hsp90 is involved in numerous cellular processes and is best known for its association with signal transduction machinery.

A recently cloned homolog of Hsp90, the tumor necrosis factor receptor-associated protein (TRAP1), is found to be associated with various proteins involved in diverse cellular actions. Immunofluorescence data show that TRAP1 is localized in the mitochondria of mammalian cells, and its mitochondrial targeting presequence strongly suggests that TRAP1 functions as a mitochondrial matrix protein.
