Target Information
Albumin is a soluble, monomeric protein comprising about half of the blood serum protein. It functions primarily as a carrier for steroids, fatty acids, and thyroid hormones and helps stabilize extracellular fluid volume.
Albumin is a globular, unglycosylated serum protein (~65,000 Da), synthesized in the liver as preproalbumin. The N-terminal peptide is removed before release from the rough endoplasmic reticulum, and proalbumin is subsequently cleaved in Golgi vesicles to produce secreted albumin.
