Target Information
Isocitrate dehydrogenases catalyze the oxidative decarboxylation of isocitrate to 2-oxoglutarate. These enzymes belong to two subclasses: one utilizes NAD as the electron acceptor and the other NADP.
Five isocitrate dehydrogenases have been reported: three NAD-dependent (mitochondrial matrix localized) and two NADP-dependent (one mitochondrial, one cytosolic).
Each NADP-dependent isozyme is a homodimer. The encoded protein is the NADP-dependent mitochondrial isocitrate dehydrogenase, involved in intermediary metabolism and energy production, and may interact with the pyruvate dehydrogenase complex.
