Target Information
PCNA (Proliferating Cell Nuclear Antigen) functions as a polymerase delta auxiliary protein essential for DNA replication and repair. It participates in DNA excision and mismatch repair pathways and interacts with CDK inhibitor p21, endonucleases Fen1 and XPG, and DNA cytosine 5-methyltransferase (MCMT).
PCNA serves as a marker for proliferative cells and tumor proliferation status, particularly in early G1 and S phases of the cell cycle. Located in the nucleus, PCNA forms a homotrimer that enhances DNA polymerase delta activity during replication. Upon DNA damage, PCNA undergoes ubiquitination and participates in the RAD6-dependent DNA repair pathway. Two transcript variants encoding the same protein exist, with pseudogenes identified on chromosome 4 and the X chromosome.
