Protein Family: Degenerin/Epithelial Sodium Channel (DEG/ENaC) superfamily
ACCN3 encodes an acid-sensing ion channel that may play an important role in detecting sustained pH changes. Members of this family are amiloride-sensitive sodium channels containing intracellular N and C termini, two hydrophobic transmembrane regions, and a large extracellular loop rich in conserved cysteine residues.
A heteromeric association between ACCN3 and ACCN1 forms proton-gated channels sensitive to gadolinium.
