Synuclein 단백질 패밀리는 신경세포의 세포질 및 시냅스 말단에 풍부하게 발현됩니다. 척추동물에서는 세 가지 유전자에 의해 암호화되며, Alzheimer’s disease (AD), Parkinson’s disease (PD), 유방암 등 주요 질환과 관련이 있습니다.
- AD에서는 α-synuclein 유래 펩타이드가 아밀로이드 플라크의 구성 성분으로 존재합니다.
- PD에서는 α-synuclein이 루이소체(Lewy bodies)에 축적됩니다.
- α-synuclein의 특정 대립유전자는 가족성 PD와 연관되어 있습니다.
- 유방암에서는 γ-synuclein의 발현 증가가 질병 진행과 상관관계가 있습니다.
