TET1은 메틸시토신(5mC)에 특이적으로 결합하는 다이옥시게나제로, 5mC를 5-하이드록시메틸시토신(hmC)으로 전환시킵니다. hmC는 염색질 구조 조절, 특정 인자 결합 유도 또는 시토신 탈메틸화의 중간체로 작용할 수 있습니다. ES 세포 및 뇌(특히 Purkinje 뉴런)에서 풍부하게 존재하며, 심장, 폐, 뇌의 태아 발달에 관여할 수 있습니다.
