Target Information
Regulatory subunit of the condensin complex, required for conversion of interphase chromatin into mitotic-like condensed chromosomes. The condensin complex introduces positive supercoils into relaxed DNA and may convert nicked DNA into knotted forms in the presence of topoisomerases. It may target the condensin complex to DNA via its C-terminal domain and promote resolution of double-strand DNA catenanes between sister chromatids. Essential for decatenation of non-centromeric ultrafine DNA bridges during anaphase. Plays an essential role in neurogenesis by ensuring accurate mitotic chromosome condensation in neuron stem cells, affecting neuron pool and cortex size. [UniProt]
