Target Information
Metadherin (Metastasis adhesion protein), also known as MTDH or LYRIC, is a protein localized with tight junction proteins such as ZO-1 and occludin in polarized epithelial cells. It is recruited during tight junction maturation rather than serving as a structural component. Metadherin is overexpressed in breast cancer tissues and xenografts but shows low expression in normal breast tissue. It binds to lung vasculature through a C-terminal extracellular domain segment, and blocking this domain or inhibiting metadherin with siRNA has been reported to suppress breast cancer metastasis.
