Target Information
IA-1, also known as INSM1, is an essential five zinc-finger transcription factor initially identified from an insulinoma cDNA library and expressed in the developing nervous system. In mice, IA-1 expression begins as early as E9.5 in regions such as the forebrain, midbrain, hindbrain, spinal cord, retina, and olfactory bulb. IA-1 functions as a transcriptional repressor and participates in multiple signaling pathways, including Notch, sonic hedgehog, and Ngn3 during pancreatic endocrine cell differentiation. It is also expressed in numerous tumors, including most neuroendocrine tumors and nearly all small cell lung carcinomas, suggesting its importance as a potential target in cancer research.
