Target Information
CD28 antigen is a 44 kDa disulfide-linked homodimeric T cell-specific surface glycoprotein. It is a member of the immunoglobulin superfamily and is constitutively expressed on most peripheral blood T lymphocytes. CD28 acts as a critical T cell costimulatory receptor by binding CD80 and CD86 on antigen-presenting cells, providing the essential second activation signal. It prevents T cells from entering an anergic or apoptotic state. In murine tissues, CD28 is expressed on all CD4+ and CD8+ T cells, with expression levels varying across thymocyte maturation stages. Dysregulation of CD28 is associated with diseases such as mycosis fungoides and Sezary’s disease.
