cGAS (Cyclic GMP-AMP synthase)
cGAS is a nucleotidyltransferase that catalyzes the formation of cyclic GMP-AMP (cGAMP) from ATP and GTP, playing a key role in innate immunity. It binds cytosolic DNA directly, leading to activation and synthesis of cGAMP, which activates TMEM173/STING and triggers type-I interferon production.
cGAS is involved in:
- Innate immune sensing of infection
- Detection of bacterial DNA
- Response to cellular stress and DNA damage
- Regulation of cellular senescence
