Target Information
CD16 encodes a receptor that recognizes the Fc portion of immunoglobulin G and is involved in immune complex clearance and cellular-mediated cytotoxicity.
This gene (FCGR3A) shares high similarity with FCGR3B on chromosome 1.
- Expression: FCGR3A is expressed on NK cells as an integral membrane glycoprotein; FCGR3B is expressed on polymorphonuclear neutrophils (PMN).
- Anchoring: FCGR3A uses a transmembrane peptide; FCGR3B uses a phosphatidylinositol (PI) linkage.
- Clinical relevance: Mutations are associated with Immunodeficiency 20, recurrent viral infections, systemic lupus erythematosus, and alloimmune neonatal neutropenia.
- Variants: Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
